Alexious sue NSW government over Hawks News house dilemma

first_imgChris and Deborah Alexiou are suing the NSW Government for compensation because of their legal obligation to reveal the gory details of a death that took place at their Hawks News house. When NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell was in opposition, he fully supported the Alexiou family by urging the NSW Government to purchase the house and put an end to their woes. But now as premier, he has avoided all contact with them. The family has been trying to sell the property since 2007, after seven-year-old Ebony was starved to death in it by her parents. The property was rented out to Ebony’s family through the Department of Housing, and even though they had a clean record, the house was left putrid and infested with cockroaches. The child’s body was found in November 2007. The premier has said in a statement that he is “still committed to ensuring [his] government sits down and talks when the court case is determined”.
