YYCs International Terminal opened one year ago

first_imgIt’s been one year since Calgary’s airport opened a new international terminal. In the last 12 months, YYC has welcomed 21,000 flights, 3.7 million pieces of baggage, and 4.8 million passengers.“I think early on we received feedback and we worked on that and we actioned it,” Dean Paddock, Director of Communications said, acknowledging there has been a bit of turbulence.A common complaint is getting around on time due to the size of the space.“There didn’t seem to be enough places to eat, places to get coffee, that has improved, but it is problematic, if you’re having to connect from a domestic flight because it is so spread out,” one passenger tells CityNews.Paddock said they’ve been working at it.“We have a really unique to Canada solution, which is a Canadian-built, custom designed electric vehicle. These shuttles move our passengers through our connections corridor at a rate of about 3,500 people per day,” he said.“We worked with airlines and we received customer feedback to ensure that our link shuttles are moving at the proper pace when flights are arriving and when flights are departing to ensure that our wait times are actually very low.”Paddock said the airport is very pleased with new routes added on WestJet and Air Canada, and the addition of two new airlines to the terminal: Aeromexico, and Hainan Airlines.last_img
