Ben Misagga: Let us plan for SC Villa together

first_imgMisagga was forced out of Villa last year. (File Photo)KAMPALA – SC Villa had a trying season, last, spending most of it close to the relegation zone. The 16 time record League champions had to wait until the second-last Match-Day of the season to ensure that they will stay in the top flight for at least another season.Throughout the season, Villa has not been stable on and off the pitch, using three managers during the 7-8 month period.Moses Basena who started the season at the helm was fired in November and replaced by Douglas Bamweyana who was in charge until Match-Day 29.The former Express FC tactician was also shown the exit door and replaced with assistant Simon Mugerwa, for the last game against Nyamityobora.Barely a week after the League ended, former Villa president Bem Misagga has come out and called for reconciliation.“SC Villa lets seat together as a family, plan for our Club,” Misagga said in a tweet.“No individual can take on Villa alone but we can do it together, am ready to work with anyone to uplift our Club Villa.“We cannot allow our club to be a laughing stock. It’s the time now, irrespective of our differences.Misagga was forced out of Villa last year, months after seeing them finish third in the League and also reach the semifinals of the Cup.He then took over Nyamityobora but as a fan of Villa, it looks like his heart is still with the Jogoos. He has been accused by a section of Villa fans of throwing the club into problems they went through last season and it remains to be seen how such a reconciliatory message will be treated. However, the move to reconcile is expected to be welcome by thousands of Jogoos fans who seek to see the club regain its long lost glory.Comments Tags: Ben MisaggaNyamityobora FCSC Villalast_img read more

Andy Murray storms into US Open final

first_imgAndy Murray reached his second US Open final after a comeback victory against Tomas Berdych in a match played in gale-force winds.Severe gusts sent chairs and racquet bags flying across the court, even whipping off the Briton’s cap at one point, but the third seed kept his cool to turn around a first-set loss for a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, 7-6(7) win Saturday. He sets up a final with fourth seed David Ferrer or second seed Novak Djokovic, who resume their semi-final later Sunday with the Spaniard 5-2 up in the first set. It was suspended with the storm approaching. The 25-year-old Scot is having the best year of his career with a second consecutive Grand Slam final, after Wimbledon, and an Olympic gold medal.”Whatever happens in the final, it’s been a great year,” Murray said. “But all I want to make sure I do in the final is that I give 110 percent. I know how hard these opportunities are to come by, and I will give it everything.”Murray’s other US Open final appearance was in 2008, when he lost in straight sets to Roger Federer.Berdych, who racked up a whopping 64 unforced errors to Murray’s 20, insisted that play at Flushing Meadows should have been suspended earlier in the day.”I think that our sport deserves to have some rule or if the conditions are like that you don’t play because of the rain,” the 26-year-old said. The storm forced the postponement of the women’s final between world No.1 Victoria Azarenka and Olympic champion Serena Williams to Sunday.advertisementlast_img read more

As week two of election beings voter sentiment polls at odds

first_imgTORONTO – Day eight of the federal election campaign is underway, but it appears the results of two polls done on voter sentiment are at odds with one another. The two polls appear to show voters are conflicted about whether a change is needed in Ottawa. On the one hand, a poll conducted by Ipsos finds that Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau is still the top pick among voters for prime minister with 37 per cent support. The best choice for the job, according to about 30 per cent of voters, is Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer. Green Party Leader Elizabeth May saw 14 per cent support, while the NDP’s Jagmeet Singh saw 10.On the other hand and according to another poll for DART Insight and Communications, 51 per cent of Canadians say it’s time for change in government. The DART survey finds just 27 per cent of voters believe the Liberals should be re-elected.Week two beginsThe survey results come as leaders embark on week two of the federal election campaign.Trudeau is spending the day in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, having made marquee promises of a massive expansion of child care and parental benefit programs. He’s promising to more for seniors of he’s made Prime Minister again.“A re-elected Liberal government will increase old age security by an extra ten per cent once folks turn 75,” he said.Scheer spent the last week announcing a range of tax credits targeted at helping families, but today he is in and around Toronto, speaking on what he calls wasteful business subsidies.“We can save Canadian taxpayers at least 1.5 billion dollars every year, ” he says. The day began with a promise from the New Democrat leader, who said an NDP government would extend full public dental coverage to households making less than $70,000 a year.“There’s 4.3 million Canadians that don’t have access to dental services,” Singh said. “Have no coverage, public or private. We know that one-in-three Canadians have no coverage at all. This is a serious concern. Cost of living is going up, it’s harder and harder to make ends meet.”Promises on the campaign trail today…NDP: Full dental coverage for low income CdnsLiberals: Increase Old age Security by 10% for those 75 & older. Boost CPP survivor’s benefit by 25%Conservatives: cut $1.5-billion in ‘corporate welfare’ #elxn43 #cdnpoli— Cormac Mac Sweeney (@cmaconthehill) September 18, 2019Singh said on Wednesday morning that his plan would be a first step toward including dentistry in public health care for all Canadians.Meantime, May will be in Vancouver, after her party released its national platform earlier this week.
